Jamaica’s utility JPS has set the groundwork for the construction of a third LNG-fueled power plant in the country following the power purchase agreement it signed with New Fortress Sout Power Holdings.

The new facility with a 94MW production capacity will be built on the grounds of the Jamalco bauxite operations in Clarendon.

It follows the construction JPS Bogue power plant in St. James and the 190 MW plant which is being constructed in Old Harbour Bay, St. Catherine.

Unlike the first power plant for which the New Fortress Energy is delivering LNG and the second facility for which the company provided gas delivery infrastructure, it will build and own the new facility.

The construction of the power plant is scheduled to start in 2018, JPS said.
