Japan: Utilities March LNG Usage Climbs 31.8 Percent

The ten regional electric power companies in Japan consumed 5,039,257 mt of LNG in March, a year-on-year rise of 31.8 percent, according to the Federation of Electric Power Companies of Japan (FEPC).

The power companies received  5,529,141 mt of LNG in March, a rise of 34.6 percent on year.

The companies consumed 4,996,842 mt of LNG in February, a year-on-year rise of 44 percent.

Japan’s monthly LNG imports have been rising steadily year-on-year, due to the devastating earthquake and tsunami in March 2011.

Power companies account for two-thirds of total Japanese LNG imports.
