Jumbo in FSRU mooring gig offshore Brazil

Malaysia’s Sapura has hired Dutch Jumbo to perform the transportation and installation of an FSRU Mooring System including riser and umbilical, off the coast of Aracaju, Sergipe, Brazil.

The mooring system comprises an anchor base and a rotating yoke arm filled with water and barite ballast. The structures will be loaded in Batam, Indonesia, and subsequently transported and installed at the offshore site by one of  Jumbo’s offshore Heavy Lift Cargo Vessels, Fairplayer or Jumbo Javelin. The work is expected to be completed by December 31, 2018.

Roddy Lafontaine, VP Offshore for Jumbo says: “In continuation of last year’s LNG projects such as Hilli in Cameroon and Moheshkhali in Bangladesh, this award enables Jumbo to again provide our unique FSRU installation solutions, this time in Brazil. We would like to sincerely thank Sapura, and also Golar, for the confidence placed in Jumbo and we are very much looking forward to working together towards a successful project completion.”

Sapura’s Brazilian subsidiary Sapura Energy Do Brasil LTDA has a contract to undertake the Engineering, Procurement and Construction related to the Pipeline for UTE Porto de Sergipe 1 Combined Cycle Power Plant; the Transportation and Installation of the FSRU’s Mooring System including riser and umbilical; and finally, the Hooking-up of the FSRU/riser/umbilical.

The Port of Sergipe project is Brazil’s first private-private engagement in a space previously dominated by state-owned enterprises.

The Port of Sergipe project comprises a liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal with a 170,000 cm floating storage regasification unit (FSRU), a 6.5 kilometer natural gas pipeline, a 1,516 megawatt combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power plant, and a 33 kilometer electricity transmission line. Its annual electricity generation will be equivalent to approximately one million individual residential consumers reached. The sponsors of this project are Golar Power, a global integrated LNG company, and Ebrasil, a regional thermal plant operator.
