KCT Chosen as Preferred Bidder for Durban Cruise Terminal

KwaZulu Cruise Terminal Pty Ltd (KCT), a joint venture between MSC Cruises and Africa Armada Consortium, has been selected as the preferred bidder for the Durban Cruise Terminal.

South Africa’s Transnet National Ports Authority confirmed the decision, which was made following a lengthy and complicated procurement process, on May 30.

“The development of a new world-class cruise terminal facility at the Port of Durban represents a significant and exciting opportunity for cruise and tourism operators in the city and province,” Bowmans’ Ports, Terminals and Logistics Corridors, the advisor of the bidder, informed.

At least twenty international cruise liners currently call at South African ports and Durban “will be well placed to take advantage of expected increases in passenger numbers.”

In 2016, about 191,000 passengers visited Durban and this number is expected to grow with the advent of the new terminal, which is anticipated to be operational early in 2019.
