Klaveness to optimize fuel consumption on more vessels with Veracity

Klaveness Ship Management, part of Norway’s shipping company Torvald Klaveness, is expanding its pilot project with Veracity, a DNV GL brand, to collect data from more vessels and ultimately optimize their fuel consumption.
The cooperation was first launched in 2019 on three ships that installed Arundo Edge Analytics onboard to stream data onto the Veracity data platform.
The data is then used for visualization and analytics.
Klaveness embarked on the project with the aim of cutting fuel consumption and operation costs on the three vessels, targeting primarily optimization of utilization of auxiliary engines.
DNV GL said that the visualization of the data in a common dashboard has enabled Klaveness to detect inefficiencies in engine utilization that caused higher fuel utilization and higher maintenance costs.
“In Klaveness we have high digital ambitions and by live-streaming sensor data to shore we can change our operating models both onboard and in the office. The outcome can be fewer accidents, less CO2 emissions, higher revenues and lower costs,” Ernst Meyer, COO of Klaveness, said.
Torvald Klaveness is a dry bulk operator, service provider, and integrated owner. It operates close to 135 vessels through offices in Oslo, Singapore, Manila, and Dubai with around 175 employees onshore and close to 750 seafarers.
