Kogas: stage one complete at Samcheok LNG terminal

Kogas of South Korea, the world’s largest corporate buyer of LNG, said it has completed the first phase of the construction of its Samcheok LNG receiving terminal located some 250 kilometers east of Seoul. 

The construction of the terminal that will have a total storage capacity of 2,4 million cubic meters of LNG in twelve 200,000 cbm storage tanks began in 2010, and is set to be constructed in three phases.

The first phase, that was completed on Tuesday, included the construction of four storage tanks, a 1.8 kilometer-long breakwater, a berth able to receive LNG carriers with a capacity of up to 270,000 cbm and LNG submerged combustion vaporizers with a 780 ton per hour gasification capacity.

As BusinessKorea reported, Kogas is scheduled to complete the two remaining stages by 2016 (stage two) and 2017 (stage three).

The construction of the first stage cost around US$1.19 billion.
