Kotug Christens Damen ASD Tugs (Germany)

June and May of this year, International Maritime Service Provider KOTUG celebrated the christening ceremony of three Damen ASD tugs.

Since April last, the three Damen ASD 2810 tugs commenced their towage activities. Two tugs are being used in the port of Rotterdam and the third tug operates in the port of Hamburg.

All Sponsor Ladies have a ‘special’ relation to Kotug:

Thursday June 14th, KOTUG performed the christening ceremony of the SD Ranger in the port of Hamburg. Sponsor Lady Mrs. Susan Beumer christened the tug SD Ranger. Mrs. Susan Beumer has been working at the administration department of Kotug since 10 years.

Friday May, 11th the christening ceremony of the SD Rebel and SD Rover was held in the port of Rotterdam. The theme of this ceremony was the long term financial partnership. Kotug was delighted that these two Sponsor ladies performed the ceremony.

Damen Services arranged the transport from Galati to Rotterdam, where Damen hands over the tugs in a turnkey operation. April, 23th 3 ASD Tugs SD Rover, SD Rebel and SD Ranger arrived in Rotterdam. After its arrival the tugs have been putted in the KOTUG colors, equipped and prepared to commence their towage activities in the port of Rotterdam and Hamburg.

The tugs have a length of 28 m, a width of 9,8 m, 5.000 BHP and a bollard pull of 60 tons. The tugs are built and delivered from stock at Damen Shipyards Galati (Romania).

Ard-Jan Kooren, CEO of KOTUG, comments: “We have long known Damen as a repair yard and now we know it as a shipyard as well. This is the first time that we have teamed up with Damen on a new build project. Damen has a top quality portfolio. We needed additional tugs quickly to replace a number of older tugs that we had sold and Damen had them in stock. Within two weeks, we had our tugs. The short delivery time and the quality were the key factors that persuaded us to invest in three tugs at the same time.”
