Leask Marine said on Wednesday that the survey was done in preparation for the departure of the Safe Caledonia from the Scapa Flow to perform an underwater inspection instead of dry-docking (UWILD) inspection.

While the Safe Caledonia was preparing for departure, the Leask Marine diving team assisted with a range of underwater routine maintenance projects including thruster cleaning and replacement of lifeboat underwater guide wires.

To remind, Prosafe won a contract for the Safe Caledonia accommodation rig back in September 2018.

At the time, the flotel owner did not disclose the name of the customer, but the client was described as a ‘major oil and gas operator.’ According to the most recent available data, the rig was hired by ConocoPhillips and will be deployed at the oil major’s Judy field in the UK part of the North Sea.

The firm duration of the contract, valued at approximately $12 million minus extension options and scheduled to start in mid-April 2019, is four months with up to two months of options.

ConocoPhillips also recently hired four AHTS vessels to move the Safe Caledonia. The U.S. company hired the Maersk Lancer, Maersk Laser, Siem Pearl, and Skandi Skansen anchor handlers.

The vessels were chartered by the oil company on a 21-day spot deal each. Westshore data shows the work was expected to start on Monday, April 8.

As for the Safe Caledonia, it was built in 1982 at the GVA/Kockums yard in Sweden to a Pacesetter design and completed a 20-year life extension in 2012/13. It has a maximum of 454 beds, 9 offices, and 67 client workstations.
