Leighton Enters Pipeline Replacement Project Offshore India

Leighton Welspun has been awarded its fifth project by India’s Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), taking the value of the total work awarded to the Company by ONGC to more than INR 5000 Crore (AUD$914 Million) over the past 5  years.

The 1400 Crore (AUD$256 Million) Pipeline Replacement Project 3 (PRP3) follows on from the very successful completion by Leighton Welspun of the Pipeline Replacement Project 2 (PRP2) in 2011.

PRP3 covers works in ONGC’s Mumbai High and Heera Oil and Gas fields off India’s west coast. The scope of work includes installation of 31 subsea pipeline segments, both rigid and flexible, of various diameters up to 16″ and totalling approximately 200kms in length, as well as associated pipeline risers, platform topsides modifications, hook-up activities and testing.

Much of the production and transportation infrastructure at Mumbai High was installed in the 1980’s. To assure asset integrity, ONGC has been progressively implementing a replacement program. The new pipelines will help ONGC extend field life and enhance production and operational safety.

With many offshore fields worldwide having key infrastructure approaching the end of its design life, there is significant growth potential in this sector. PRP3 builds on Leighton Welspun’s core strength in offshore oil and gas construction,  and along with the successfully completed PRP2 and Water Injection North Platform Revamp projects, cements the Company’s position as a leader in offshore replacement and revamp projects.

Work on PRP 3 commences immediately and will be completed by mid-2014.

Leighton Asia, India and Offshore Managing Director, Ian Edwards said “Leighton has built a substantial offshore oil and gas capability over a number of years. The award of PRP3 is a testament to the strength of that capability, and to our  reputation for successfully delivering projects on time, and to the highest standards of quality and safety. The award of PRP3 aligns well with the Group’s strategic initiatives to expand its business in the oil and gas sector and to continue to build  its international presence.”
