LNG-powered AIDAprima christened in Hamburg

Carnival Corporation on Tuesday said its German-based unit AIDA Cruises christened the LNG-powered AIDAprima in Hamburg.

In addition to the christening ceremony that took place during the 827th Hamburg Port anniversary, AIDAprima completed the full test run for its LNG operation on Saturday, Carnival said.

This means the vessel will be able to operate on LNG while in port, leading to emissions reduction when the ship is docked.

The 124,100-ton vessel will be able to accommodate 3,300 passengers and will have its homeport in Hamburg.

Additionally, Carnival Corporation’s four next-generation cruise ships for Costa Cruises and AIDA Cruises set to be delivered in 2019 and 2020 will be the first in the industry to be powered at sea by LNG, the company said.
