Macduff Completes 16m Tug Design Package for Turkey

In March 2012, Macduff completed the supply of a complete design package for a 16m tug for Dearsan Shipyard in Turkey. The design is a virtual repeat of the highly successful “Sally Mcloughlin” completed in 2009.

Up to 4 vessels are to be built, each with a bollard pull of 19 tonnes. Macduff has also provided Dearsan with all of the cutting information.

Macduff Ship Design Ltd is able to offer all of its designs as kits. These kits are produced using the latest 3 Dimensional surface modelling software which allows us to fully fair Macduff’s hull models. From this faired hull model plate profiles can be extracted and this information is then used to produce a set of pre cut, pre numbered components which are supplied to the prospective builder in a ‘flat pack’ format. A full set of assembly plans are also supplied with the kit detailing the order in which the components are to be assembled. Macduff Ship Design Ltd have supplied profiling information for vessels from 8 to 60 metres.

The advantage of this type of construction is the tremendous accuracy that can be achieved with the profiles, this means that the builder has no lofting to do and no green material to trim from plates. It saves the builder time and money and the end result is a much fairer hull form.

Where builders have their own CNC cutting facilities Macduff Ship Design Ltd can supply the cutting information and assembly plans only.
