Maersk Aras to Remain in Manzanillo for Repairs

The Panamax containership Maersk Aras, which suffered a main engine failure in late February, is to remain at the port of Manzanillo in Mexico until it is repaired.

The vessel, formerly named Hanjin Indigo, ran into trouble shortly after it left Manzanillo on its way to Yokohama, Japan.

According to data provided by German shipping major Hapag-Lloyd, the 4,662 TEU Maersk Aras, which is deployed in the company’s AC1 service, was diverted back to Ensenada, Mexico following the incident.

Once there, the vessel underwent an investigation of damage and some repairs, and afterwards moved to Manzanillo.

After completion of repairs, the ship will sail directly to Yokohama, where it is expected to arrive on March 19, 2018.
