Magnolia LNG Starts Pre-Filing Procedures

Magnolia LNG has submitted project information, to build, own, and operate an 8 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) LNG project in the Port of Lake Charles, Louisiana, in accordance with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s (FERC) mandatory pre-filing procedures.

FERC will initiate their National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) pre-filing review of Magnolia’s proposed LNG project which it is intended will receive natural gas sourced from North America, via an existing pipeline, and liquefy, store, and deliver it as needed to LNG carriers for the export and domestic markets.

In accordance with FERC’s mandatory pre-filing procedures, the following information was submitted:

  • Project Schedule;
  • Zoning and Availability;
  • Magnolia Project Description;
  • List of the Relevant Federal and State Agencies in the Project Area with Permitting Requirements;
  • List and Description of the Interest of Other Persons/Organizations Contacted about the Project;
  • Project Work Already Done;
  • Third-party Consultant Proposals; and
  • Public Participation Plan Details.

Pre-filing allows for early input from stakeholders regarding the possible environmental impacts of a project and is designed to facilitate the formal NEPA review process.
