Australian independent oil and gas company, Melbana Energy, has appointed Robert Zammit as the chief executive officer following the resignation of Peter Stickland.

Stickland tendered his resignation as managing director of Melbana for health reasons with immediate effect, however, he will continue to support the company in a part-time capacity and will remain on the board as non-executive director.

Zammit will start in his new position effective January 12, Melbana said in a statement.

He has over 25 years international experience in the oil and gas industry and has so far held up the position of executive manager, commercial & business development. Prior to joining Melbana in 2011, Zammit worked on a number of commercial and business development roles in Australia, Europe, Asia and the USA for ExxonMobil.

In his position at Melbana, Zammit was responsible for all the commercial and business development activities of the company and was instrumental in the transaction for the Beehive prospect with Total and Santos.
