Ministers Pradhan and Perry talk US-India LNG cooperation

India’s minister of petroleum and natural gas, Dharmendra Pradhan discussed LNG cooperation with the newly appointed US energy secretary Rick Perry in Washington.

Discussions revolved around energy cooperation between India and the US as well as India’s growing energy needs.

Special emphasis was given to the export of LNG to India from early 2018, and Indian investment in LNG and shale sector in the US, a statement by the Indian embassy in Washington reads.

India’s gas utility, GAIL has executed an LNG off-take agreement with Cheniere Energy, for import of 3.5 million metric tons per annum LNG from the USA on FoB basis.

In addition, the company booked 2.3 mmtpa capacity in the Cove Point LNG terminal being built by Dominion Cove Point LNG.

The company was recently reported to have signed an agreement with the Swiss trader Gunvor to swap its US LNG volumes between April and December this year, under which Gunvor will deliver 15 LNG cargoes to Gail in the said period. In return, GAIL will sell 10 cargoes to Gunvor, that it has contracted at Cheniere’s Sabine Pass LNG facility.
