Business & Finance

The US-based chemical tanker operator MT Maritime has placed an order for four new vessels to be built by two Japanese shipyards, the company’s newbuilding list shows.

Kitanhion Shipbuilding will build two 21,000 dwt tankers, scheduled for delivery in January and March 2018, respectively.

MT Maritime has further two 36,650 dwt tankers on order at Shin Kurushima Dockyard, expected to enter the fleet in June and October 2018.

The company also took delivery of the first of the six previously ordered newbuildings – MTM Penang – on February 20.

The remaining five newbuildings are expected to join MT Maritime’s fleet in a period from May 2015 to March 2016. All six vessels had been ordered from Shin Kurushima Dockyard.

With MTM Penang, MT Maritime now operates a fleet of 16 in-service chemical tankers.
