MWCC: COO transitions to CEO

Marine Well Containment Company has announced plans to transition the office of the CEO from Marty Massey to Don Armijo, who currently serves as the company’s chief operating officer.

Massey has led MWCC as its first CEO since February 2011, the same month the organization introduced its Interim Containment System (ICS) – the result of unprecedented industry collaboration.

“On behalf of MWCC’s Executive Committee and MWCC employees, I would like to thank Marty for his leadership and expertise in launching the industry’s premier containment system for the U.S. Gulf of Mexico and for seeing MWCC through so many milestones,” said David McBride, chairman of MWCC’s executive committee board and Vice President, Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) for Anadarko Petroleum Corporation.

“We’re pleased to welcome Don to his new role as CEO,” said McBride.

“Don is uniquely qualified for the role after serving as chief operating officer since March 2013, as well as by his considerable industry experience with Shell.”

Armijo will begin serving in his new role effective Oct. 15, 2014.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to lead an organization dedicated to being continuously ready to respond in the event of a deepwater well containment incident in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico,” said Don Armijo.

“Together with MWCC’s leadership team, staff and executive committee, I look forward to continuing the company’s tradition of excellence with the delivery of the Expanded Containment System (ECS).”

Armijo has more than 30 years of experience in the oil and gas industry, including engineering and production operations leadership assignments in the United States, United Kingdom, Nigeria and the Netherlands. Prior to joining MWCC, he was global operations excellence manager for Shell International Exploration and Production Inc. He is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma with a bachelor of science in chemical engineering.
