Nakilat Presents Job Opportunities at Qatar Career Fair

Nakilat, Qatar’s premier gas transporter, and its joint venture shipyard operators, Nakilat-Keppel Offshore and Marine (N-KOM) and Nakilat Damen Shipyards Qatar (NDSQ), are presenting a wide range of job opportunities for young Qataris at this year’s Qatar Career Fair.

Representatives from Nakilat, N-KOM and NDSQ will be on stand number EI-G06 throughout the event to receive applications and to answer questions about the different vacancies and development programmes offered by the companies.

Opportunities include Nakilat’s prestigious new Marine Cadet Scholarship, which supports young nationals throughout their post-secondary education to become maritime officers, with a guaranteed placement aboard one of Nakilat’s state-of-the-art gas-carrying vessels after graduation.

Nakilat launched its Marine Cadet Scholarship in 2012 and has so far successfully recruited four marine cadets, who are currently attending the International Maritime College Oman.

Nakilat’s shipyard-based activities, including ship repairer N-KOM and shipbuilder NDSQ, are particularly interested in meeting potential Qatari recruits from communities in northern Qatar for whom working at Ras Laffan would be convenient.

Nakilat has also announced its Qatarization achievements and targets at this year’s Qatar Career Fair.

The company developed its Qatarization programme in support of Qatar’s Energy and Industry Sector Strategic Qatarization Plan. Since the commencement of the programme in 2010, Nakilat has increased its Qatari workforce by 139%.

An increase of 72% in Nakilat’s Qatari workforce is planned for 2013, leading to a projected equivalent of Qatari representation in Nakilat’s total workforce of 24%.

During 2012, and in line with Nakilat’s mission to identify and develop a high-quality Qatari workforce to assume permanent positions within Qatar’s marine industry, Nakilat has placed great emphasis on being an employer of choice for Qataris. Competitive compensation packages and graduate development programmes to rival those on offer in the US and Europe are among the incentives offered by Nakilat to national recruits.

Upon the occasion of Qatar Career Fair, Muhammad Ghannam, Nakilat’s Managing Director, said, “Qatarization is a top priority at Nakilat. But there are also important benefits for young nationals that choose to join our organization. Our gas fleet is the world’s largest and our shipyard is at the cutting edge of ship repair and shipbuilding. We encourage the young people of Qatar to make contact with Nakilat’s careers specialists to plan their futures in Qatar’s diverse and fast-growing marine sector.

Abdullah Al Sulaiti, Nakilat’s Deputy Managing Director, said, “Nakilat is making a solid contribution to the growth and diversification of Qatar, and we want young Qataris to reap the benefits of this. By recruiting the brightest of Qatar’s youth and developing their careers to their maximum potential, we are investing in the future of our company, in the future of our young people, and in the future of our country.

Nakilat is a Qatari marine company providing the critical transportation link in Qatar’s LNG supply chain. Its LNG shipping fleet is the largest in the world, comprising 54 LNG vessels. Nakilat also manages and operates four LPG carriers. Via two strategic joint ventures, N-KOM and NDSQ, Nakilat operates the state-of-the-art ship repair and construction facilities at Qatar’s Erhama Bin Jaber Al Jalahma Shipyard in the Port of Ras Laffan.
