While announcing the deals ranging from two to five years, KCA Deutag confirmed on Thursday, 22 June 2023, that they were awarded by existing clients, but did not reveal their names. The company believes that these awards reinforce its position as “a leading platform drilling contractor” in the UK North Sea.

Peter Skinner, KCA Deutag’s UK country manager, commented: “KCA Deutag has been the drilling contractor of choice on some of these assets since the early nineties and we are delighted to continue our excellent long-term working relationships with our customers in the UK North Sea.”

According to the company, these deals will enable it to continue to deliver drilling services, including maintenance, warehousing, inventory procurement, and management on four undisclosed offshore platforms.

Back in December 2019, the UK player was also picked for the provision of drilling operations and maintenance services on CNRI’s Ninian South, Ninian Central, and Tiffany platforms in the North Sea. The firm also provides such services to CNOOC Petroleum Europe Limited and EnQuest, among others.

Ole Maier, KCA Deutag’s President of Offshore, remarked: “The UK North Sea continues to be an important market and we are committed to working with our customers and partners to successfully and safely deliver drilling programmes, well decommissioning work and innovative solutions for the energy transition in the region.”

Regarding solutions for the energy transition story, KCA Deutag was hired last year to carry out an energy optimisation project for Equinor on two Cat J rigs in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea to reduce emissions in drilling operations.
