New State-of-the-Art Drillship Bolette Dolphin Named, Hyundai Heavy

Aberdeen-based Dolphin Drilling Ltd attended a naming ceremony recently to unveil the identity of a brand new state-of-the-art drillship to be operated by the company. The ceremony for the751ft long ultra deepwater asset – now known as Bolette Dolphin – took place at the Hyundai Heavy Industries Shipyard in Ulsan, South Korea.

The drillship, designed for efficient deepwater drilling and completion activity, will start work for Anadarko Petroleum Corporation later this year and has been contracted for a four year international campaign.

Graeme Murray, Managing Director at Dolphin Drilling Ltd, who attended the ceremony with his colleagues, commented: “The naming ceremony of the Bolette Dolphin hails a key step in the company’s strategic development with a deep water focus, directly in line with industry demands as exploration and production continues to push to ever deeper depths. The ship marks a significant investment for the Group and will be one of the most advanced deepwater drillships in the market.”

The drillship, Gusto P10000 type, will be designed for water depth capacity up to 12,000 feet, have a seven ram BOP (Blow Out Preventer), dual activity capability, five mud pumps, a 165 ton capacity heave compensated crane, a maximum hook-load capacity of 1,250 tons and an accommodation module housing up to 210 people.

The new ultra-deepwater drillship is scheduled for delivery in 3rd quarter 2013. Total project cost is estimated to USD 650 million (including spare parts, owner furnished equipment and project team).
