NiAS Opts for SENER's FSURF

SENER has concluded FORAN Academic License Agreement with Nagasaki Institute of Applied Science (NiAS) on 6 June 2013, and carried out the initial introduction training for FORAN hull surface modeling module (FSURF).

Following an academic contract with Hiroshima University in February, the Agreement with NiAS became the second case in Japan. Professor Dr. Eng. Mikio Nose, Department of Naval Architecture, Faculty of Engineering of NiAS, and Alfonso Cebollero, SENER Regional Director, Asia & Pacific, signed the Agreement at the main office of NiAS.

In NiAS, FORAN is going to be utilized for both research and 3D CAD education purposes. As the first step, within this year, hull surface modeling and lines drawing will be made with FORAN to be used for forming bow shape and studying resistance against wave pressure. The strength analysis of the hull structure will be carried out through FORAN FEM-Link solution as well.

From 2014, NiAS will introduce new curriculum with FORAN in order to achieve more practical skill and know-how in 3D CAD system operation and engineering. The first-year students will receive CAD basic education; the third-year students will learn shipbuilding CAD, and then the forth-year students will challenge the shipbuilding design by using 3D CAD.
