Nigeria: Dredging Crisis Looms over FG Canal Project

In Bolou-Ndoro, Ebeberegbene and other communities, in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State, concerns started to arise after the Federal Government canal dredging project was discontinued.

Protestants from the Eberegbene and other communities forced the company to stop their works. The people claimed that the project could have a negative impact on them.

According to Vanguard, Managing Director of the company, Chief Joe Penawou, said that the company did not violate any environmental law, and added: “The matter is being resolved.”

He also states that the Minister of Niger Delta, Elder Godsday Orubebe, whose ministry awarded the contract, was from the local government area and would not have done anything to cause problems to his people.
