A Filipino crewman was medevacked from the bulk carrier Cape Orchid off Port Elizabeth on June 30, South Africa’s National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) informed.

As explained, NSRI Port Elizabeth launched a sea rescue craft to rendezvous with the bulker to evacuate the medically ill 41-year-old seafarer. The 172,600 dwt vessel was at anchor some 3.5 nautical miles from the Port of Port Elizabeth.

Upon arrival at the port, the patient was transported to a hospital for further treatment.

The Capesize vessel continued its voyage and is currently en route to Singapore, according to the bulker’s AIS data.
