NYK Line Adds 14,000 TEU Containership

Business & Finance

Japanese shipping company NYK Line has taken delivery of a new 14,000 TEU containership, NYK Blue Jay, from the Kure shipyard of Japan Marine United Corporation.

The vessel employs a hull form that allows for improved cargo-loading efficiency, which is achieved by minimizing engine-room space. The vessel’s main engine is equipped with the patent system featuring two power ranges (high and low) allowing high speed operations and resulting in an improved fuel-consumption rate when slow-streaming.

NYK Blue Jay is the first of 10 containerships to be chartered by NYK Line under time charter contracts with the owner. The other 9 vessels will be delivered and chartered until June 2018.

The vessel will be put into service between Asia and Europe.
