NYK, Mitsui Ink Time-Charter for New LNG Carrier

Japanese shipping company NYK has concluded a time-charter contract with Mitsui & Co. Ltd. for a new liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier for the Cameron LNG project based in the U.S. state of Louisiana.


NYK said that the ship would be delivered in 2018 and assigned to transport the project’s LNG for a maximum of 25 years.

The new vessel will be owned by Tea Tree Shipping Pte. Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of NYK, and an NYK Group company will be responsible for ship management.

The contract was signed on September 26, 2014.

The one membrane-type LNG carrier with a capacity of 174,000 m3 will be built by a an unnamed Korean shipbuilder.
