Obayashi Could Build 455MW OWF in Japan

Japanese company Obayashi Corp. is looking into developing a 455MW offshore wind project off Akita Prefecture, and could start an environmental survey already this month to decide the final wind farm’s size, according to the national media.

Obayashi is already involved in two offshore wind projects planned to be installed off the prefecture’s coast. These include a 170MW offshore wind farm near the Port of Noshiro and two wind farms with a total capacity of 145MW – one planned to be built near the Akita port, and the other at the Noshiro port.

Should the newly planned project go ahead, the construction would start in 2020 and the wind farm would be operational by 2024.
