Ocean Installer in SURF work off Libya

Ocean Installer, Norway’s subsea installation specialist, has been awarded a SURF (subsea, umbilicals, risers, flowlines) project at the Al Jurf oil field in the Mediterranean.

The company said on Tuesday that the contract was awarded by Mabruk Oil Operations, a joint venture (JV) between Total E&P and the National Oil Cooperation (NOC) of Libya.

The work scope encompasses the replacement of a 10″ flexible flowline between a fixed drilling and production platform and a floating, production, storage and offloading unit, the Farwah FPSO.

Steinar Riise, CEO of Ocean Installer, said: “We are very happy with this award and the opportunity to continue to develop our solid working relationship with Total E&P, or as in this case a Total E&P joint venture, further.”

The company added that the project would be managed from its Stavanger and Aberdeen offices in cooperation with Mabruk Oil Operations. Onshore engineering will begin with immediate effect while mobilization and offshore operations are scheduled for the third and fourth quarters of 2017.

The Al Jurf oil field, operated by Mabruk Oil, came on stream in 2003 and is located about 150 kilometers northwest off the coast of Tripoli, Libya, at a water depth of approximately 80-90 meters. The Al-Jurf field platform produces into an an anchored FPSO located 3 kilometers away.

It is worth noting that Ocean Installer has won several contracts since the beginning of the year. Namely, the company was awarded its first contract in Australia in January and it completed installation work on Statoil’s Johan Sverdrup project in February.
