OceanWise and Seatronics Deliver Phase 1of TMDS to Bayanat, UAE

The TMDS receives input from 18 existing tidal monitoring stations in the Arabian Gulf operated by Bayanat on behalf of UAE’s Department of Transport. The stations consist of a number of Valeport Tidemaster and VRS20 Radar Gauges, as well as some older acoustic gauges which are to be upgraded in due course.

System design, integration, and all control, database and publishing hardware and software has been provided by OceanWise, with Seatronics providing local hardware and on-site support. The system checks and decodes the incoming data from the tidal monitoring stations, applies QA/QC, calibrations and datum offsets before finally making it available to users to view and download via a secure online website. Full audits of the data can be undertaken, and the raw sensor information and telemetry diagnostics is also available to system engineers to troubleshoot any issues with the equipment or networks. Web mapping is also included as part of the system to provide a quick visual reference to overall system integrity.

The system complements OceanWise’ expertise and experience in delivering maritime information infrastructure projects and builds on work that it is undertaking for ports and coastal authorities in the UK and around the world. The aim is to ensure that environmental and operational data, critical to port operations and for compliance, is reliably and easily accessible to all personnel and wider stakeholders who require it. These projects are realizing tangible benefits and attracting a lot of interest from numerous maritime organisations within the UK and overseas.

Dr. Mike Osborne, OceanWise’s MD stated, “We are delighted to be working with Bayanat and to have won and delivered this contract in conjunction with Seatronics (Abu Dhabi) after a robust tendering process. It is a huge step towards realising our vision of being a leading provider of end-to-end marine and coastal data management and decision support products and services.”
