Okeanus Adds Sound Ocean Systems

Louisiana-based oceanographic and marine rental company, Okeanus Science & Technology (Okeanus), has acquired the business assets of Sound Ocean Systems, Inc. (SOSI).

This business combination will allow it to offer SOSI’s full catalog of equipment and engineering services to Okeanus customers and give the combined company a local presence in the Gulf of Mexico and Pacific Northwest.

Founded in Redmond, Washington, SOSI designs and builds marine winches, launch and recovery systems, towed vehicles, deck equipment, ocean mining and cable handling equipment, moored ocean observation buoy systems and a variety of engineered solutions for the ocean industry.

Ted Brockett, president of SOSI, said: “All of us here at SOSI, Stephanie, Don and I in particular, are thrilled at the prospect of joining Okeanus Science & Technology. This exciting new chapter in our corporate life will allow us to grow the company and do new things that have previously been out of our reach. We are looking forward to the exciting times ahead and to the opportunities to better serve our customers.”

The companies will maintain offices in Redmond and Houma after the combination of the businesses to leverage opportunities in both regions. Ted Brockett, president of SOSI will become CEO of the combined companies, while Benton LeBlanc will continue as president and general manager.

“I am very excited to welcome the SOSI team to the Okeanus family” stated LeBlanc. “This acquisition is going to add a new level of service to our market offering, and we are looking forward to building upon their rich history of providing quality products and services to the oceanographic world. We are also excited to position our rental equipment in the Pacific market, greatly enhancing our ability to service the region.”
