Oldendorff’s Fleet to Be EU MRV Verified

German bulk carrier owner and operator Oldendorff Carriers has appointed France-based company Verifavia to verify its fleet in line with the European Union’s Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (EU MRV) regulation.

As informed, Verifavia Shipping will provide services including the assessment of monitoring plans and verification of carbon emission reports.

“With our … fleet of eco-ships coupled with the ongoing efforts of those working on our … Green Ship Programme, Oldendorff remains committed to ensuring that the impact of our operations on the environment is minimised as much as is practically possible,” Christopher Fee, Oldendorff Carriers’ Projects Manager, explained.

Implemented on July 1, 2015, the shipping MRV regulation requires operators to monitor and report on CO2 emissions based on ship fuel consumption. It applies to all merchant vessels of 5,000 gross tons or above on journeys that call at an EU port.

With the first regulatory deadline on August 31, 2017, owners and operators have less than four months to prepare and submit their ship-specific monitoring plans to monitor and report carbon emissions, fuel consumption, and associated transport work.

“With the addition of Oldendorff’s ships, Verifavia is now exceeding 300 ships under contract for EU MRV verification and assessment,” Julien Dufour, CEO, Verifavia Shipping, said.

Verifavia Shipping has been accredited by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS), and France’s national accreditation body Cofrac.
