ORPC ‘regenerates’ TidGen

Ocean Renewable Power Company (ORPC) is advancing its TidGen Power system with the delivery of new generator as part of the US government-funded project.

The new generator, produced by Rolls-Royce Marine, has been underway from Norway to Eastport in Maine since September 8, 2017, ORPC said on social media.

The new equipment is being delivered to ORPC as part of its power take-off project, developed with the funding from the US Department of Energy Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, with the aim to advance the marine renewable energy industry in US and Europe.

Earlier this year, ORPC concluded the full-scale testing of a specialized bearing system and associated driveline components at the University of Maine as part of the project.

The company said the next stages of the project would focus on development of a highly rugged electrical generator to reduce failure rates.

ORPC’s TidGen Power System is designed to generate emission-free electricity at tidal and deep river sites.
