Over 222 K Passengers Visit Port of Halifax

Canadian Halifax Port Authority welcomed 141 vessel calls with 222,309 passengers onboard during this year’s cruise season from April 27 to November 2, 2015.

The biggest passenger day was October 16, 2015 with approximately 10 thousand passengers.

The numbers for this cruise season are short of the port’s initial expectation of 146 cruise vessels with approximately 240 thousand passengers plus crew, as announced in February 2015.

For the Port of Halifax this was the first full year in which 17 shore power connections were made to cruise vessels calling on Halifax, the port said.

“The cruise market is an important contributor to Nova Scotia’s tourism industry and to our economy. Innovations like the new shore power system position Halifax as a key port of call,” said Economic and Rural Development and Tourism Minister Michel Samson.

Port of Halifax said that a recent economic impact study found the cruise industry in Halifax contributes approximately USD 104 million in economic benefit for the local economy.
