Palm Beach Set to Break Cruise Passenger Record

The Port of Palm Beach plans to kick off  its Centennial Celebration by a record-setting number of passengers aboard the port’s newest tenant, the Grand Celebration cruise ship.

At 6:00 pm on February 13 (local time), more than 1,700 passengers are set to pass through the Port of Palm Beach en route to the Bahamas.

The port authorities announced the arrival of a new cruise line at the port, the Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line, in December last year. The cruise line’s Grand Celebration arrived at the Port of Palm Beach on January 6th.

 “The 162-acre port is thriving, serving more than 50 tenants and users and creating more than 2,500 direct jobs. Further, the recent addition of the beautiful Grand Celebration cruise ship adds another 750 jobs,” says Manny Almira, Executive Director of the Port of Palm Beach.

 “From the humble beginnings of a harbor with a 4-foot deep channel, the Port of Palm Beach has grown to become the fourth busiest container port in Florida and one of the top 20 in the nation. The District handles more than two million tons of cargo and more than $5.3 billion in commodities each year,” says Port of Palm Beach Board of Commissioners Chairman Blair J. Ciklin.

The Port of Palm Beach was established in 1915 by citizens of Palm Beach County and is governed by a fivemember elected Board of Commissioners.
