Parker Bestobell cryogenic valves get KR type approval

Parker Bestobell, part of Parker Hannifin said it has secured full type approval from the Korean Register of Shipping (KR) for its range of cryogenic globe and check valves for use on ships.

The type approval has come on the back of a number of projects Parker Bestobell is involved in for KR registered ships, Parker Bestobell said in its statement on Monday, adding that the number of KR classed LNG carriers built at the South Korean shipyards is increasing.

Duncan Gaskin, market development manager at Parker Bestobell, said, “South Korea is a very important market for us, due to its large shipbuilding industry and we have seen an increase in vessels being classed by KR.”

Having full type approval means that Parker Bestobell can carry out cryogenic testing in line with KR requirements and witnessed by one of their class surveyors, to ensure the valves perform without leakage in cryogenic conditions, the company said.

The company also carries out 100 percent ambient testing for all its cryogenic globe and check valves to ensure that are completely leakage free.
