Petrofac Ends Vessel Construction Deal with ZPMC

Petrofac, the international service provider to the oil and gas industry, has terminated the contract for JSD 6000, deepwater multi-purpose offshore vessel, with Chinese manufacturer ZPMC.

According to Petrofac, the termination of the contract is due to issues with ZPMC’s performance in respect of the construction of the proprietary design Petrofac JSD 6000.

Petrofac awarded the contract for the construction of the vessel to ZPMC in January 2014.

The JSD 6000 deepwater multi-purpose offshore vessel is a customised ULSTEIN SOC 5000 developed by Dutch design company Ulstein Sea of Solutions.

The vessel design integrates the J-Lay, S-Lay and derrick functions suitable to serve deepwater and SURF markets.

In 2015 Petrofac signed an alliance agreement with McDermott to use the JSD 6000 vessel to pursue SURF projects.

Ayman Asfari, Group Chief Executive, said: “It is regrettable that it has become necessary for us to take this decision, and the Board is now reviewing its options.”
