Petronas: PFLNG1 95 pct complete

Petronas of Malaysia on Tuesday informed its first floating LNG unit, the PFLNG1, has reached the 95 percent completion mark.

According to a Petronas statement, the FLNG unit being built at South Korea’s Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) shipyard in Okpo, remains on target to commence operations in 2016.

Once completed, the FLNG will be moored in Kanowit gas field, located 180 kilometres offshore Sarawak, Malaysia and will produce 1.2 million tonnes of LNG per year.

The field is located 200 kilometers offshore Bintulu, East Malaysia, at a water depth of approximately 80 meters.

Petronas also laid the keel for its second floating LNG facility that is being built at Samsung Heavy Industry’s shipyard on Geoje Island at the end of October. The second FLNG unit will have a 1.5 mtpa production capacity and is expected to commission in 2018.
