Philly Shipyard lays keel for APT's fourth LNG-ready ship

Philly Shipyard, the U.S. unit of Philly Shipyard ASA, on Thursday, held a keel laying ceremony for the fourth LNG-ready product tanker for American Petroleum Tankers (APT), a unit of Kinder Morgan.

When completed, the product tanker celebrated today will be 600 feet long and capable of carrying 50,000 tons of crude oil or refined petroleum products. The Tier II 50,000

The Tier II 50,000 dwt product tanker is based on the Hyundai Mipo Dockyards (HMD) design which incorporates numerous fuel efficiency features, flexible cargo capability and the latest regulatory requirements. The vessel will be constructed with consideration for the use of LNG for propulsion in the future.

Philly Shipyard has already delivered the first vessel in the series, the American Endurance, in December last year.

The three remaining product tankers for APT are currently under construction and have planned deliveries throughout 2017.
