PHOTO: Heerema places Culzean jacket on seabed for Maersk Oil

Dutch contractor Heerema Fabrication Group on Thursday posted an image through its social media channels showing the installation of the Culzean CPF jacket. The Dutch company added that the Culzean ULQ jacket has now also been installed in the UK North Sea. 

The Maersk Oil-operated Culzean gas field development concept consists of a wellhead platform, a central processing facility platform, and separate utilities and living quarter platform. They will be linked via two bridges approximately 100 meters in length.

The first jacket, for the wellhead platform, was installed in the North Sea in May 2016. The second jacket, for the central processing facility (CPF), started its journey across the North Sea in late June, followed by the third and final jacket, for the utility & living quarter (ULQ) platform, sailaway on July 7.

As previously reported by Offshore Energy Today, the CPF jacket was installed next to the first one last week and now the third jacket is in place as well. Next up will be the arrival of topsides which will happen over the course of 2018.

Heerema was in charge of the construction of all three Culzean jackets and the process involved all HFG’s locations.

Culzean

The Culzean field – discovered in 2008 – is situated in the British sector of the Central North Sea approximately 250 kilometers to the east of Aberdeen in license block 22/25a. The water depth is approximately 88 meters, and the reservoir is located around 4,300 meters below sea level.

First gas from the development is expected in 2019. The Culzean project has the potential to meet around 5% of the British gas consumption in 2020/21.
