Norwegian offshore structures builder Kvaerner has named the second jacket meant for Statoil’s Johan Sverdrup development located in the North Sea, 160 kilometers west of Stavanger.
In a social media update on Thursday Kvaerner shared images from the christening ceremony held at its Verdal shpyard in Norway.
The jacket’s godmother Synne Magnus named it Vilje, the company said in the update.
This is the second jacket to be built by Kvaerner for the giant Sverdrup development. The first one, for the riser platform, was completed in June 2017 and named Aegir.
It is worth reminding that Kvaerner has been awarded contracts to build three jackets for the Johan Sverdrup development and a contract for the utility and living quarters (ULQ) platform topside together with KBR.
The Statoil-operated Johan Sverdrup field, one of the largest in Norway, will be developed in phases. The first phase involves the establishment of a field center consisting of four platforms, including a utility and living quarters platform, a processing platform, a drilling platform and a riser platform. The platforms will be interlinked by gangways.
Production start-up is scheduled for end 2019 with production capacity estimated at 440,000 barrels of oil per day.
The plan for development and operation (PDO) for phase 2 will be submitted before September 2018. Phase 2 is expected to start up in 2022, with full field production estimated at 660,000 barrels of oil per day. Peak production on Johan Sverdrup will be equivalent to 25% of all Norwegian petroleum production.
As previously reported by Offshore Energy Today, the Johan Sverdrup development is now nearly 70% complete.
Johan Sverdrup has expected recoverable resources of between 2.1-3.1 billion barrels of oil equivalent, and is seen as one of the most important industrial projects in Norway over the next 50 years.
