A chemical tanker was boarded by a group of pirates on October 18th while the ship was sailing around 3 nautical miles east of Karimun Kecil, Indonesia, piracy watchdog ICC Commercial Crime Services (CCS) said in a report.

According to the report, five robbers armed with long knives came alongside in a boat and boarded the chemical tanker underway.

The pirates went into the engine room, where they took hostage of three engineering officers and the duty fitter. The hostages were tied up, while the robbers stole engine spares, the report adds.

No injuries to the crew have been reported.

The pirate gang escaped the tanker in their boat shortly after.

No other details have been reported thus far.
