Port of Los Angeles Issues Draft EIS/EIR for Everport Container Terminal

The Port of Los Angeles and US Army Corps of Engineers have prepared a Draft Environmental Impact Statement/Report (EIS/EIR) for the container terminal located at Berths 226-236 on Terminal Island at the Port of Los Angeles, operated by Everport Terminal Services.

The proposed project would improve the container-handling efficiency and capacity of the existing terminal to accommodate the projected fleet mix of larger container vessels that are anticipated to call at the Everport Container Terminal through 2038, according to the Port of Los Angeles.

Everport, affiliated with Taiwan-based shipping company Evergreen Line, has a long-term lease with the port for the operation of the terminal through 2028, which would be extended ten years.

The Draft EIS/EIR includes a discussion of the proposed project’s environmental impacts and identifies mitigation measures to reduce these impacts as required under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA).

The 45-day public comment and review period for the draft is from April 20 to June 5, 2017.

During this time, the port will accept written comments and hold a public meeting on May 10 to present its findings and provide an opportunity for public comment.
