President: Ukraine Plans to Increase Gas Production

Ukraine continues to work over diversification of its energy supply and is willing to achieve energy independence in the future. It was stated by the President, Viktor Yanukovych, in the course of his conversation with media representatives in New York.

“We want to build our economy on our own energy resources or on the resources we will buy for a reasonable price. The issue of energy independence is strategic for us,” the President emphasized.

He noted that Ukraine continued to look for an opportunity to increase the production of domestic gas. “Currently we are producing 21 billion cubic meters of gas. The production will gradually increase in the future,” he added.

According to Viktor Yanukovych, Ukraine plans to increase gas production with its partners by 2017. “It is our dream,” the President said.
