Energean to take GSP jack-up for ops in Greece

Greek oil company Energean Oil & Gas is expected to sign a contract to take one of GSP Offshore’s jack-up rigs for work in Greece.

VesselsValue, a maritime and offshore analytics firm, earlier this week said that Energean Oil & Gas had extended the contract for the GSP Jupiter jack-up rig for one year, starting on May 1, 2018, and will end on April 30, 2019.

Offshore Energy Today reached out to both Energean and GSP Offshore for more details regarding the deal.

We received a response from an Energean spokesperson who acknowledged the rig was currently in the Gulf of Kavala in Greece where it has been for “several months.”

The spokesperson, however, said there was no extension of any contract, “simply because there was no contract with GSP so far,” implying that a contract is expected to be signed.

According to latest AIS data, the GSP Jupiter is located off the island of Thasos, Greece.

The rig is a four-leg self-elevating cantilever type jack-up rig designed by the Sonnat Offshore Company. It was built by the Gaiatzi Shipyard in Romania in 1987 and rebuilt in 2007.

The Jupiter has a maximum drill depth of 30.000 feet at a maximum water depth at 300 feet and can accommodate 95 people.
