River Murray Mouth Reopens, Dredging to Continue

Dredging operations at the Murray Mouth started on 9 January 2015 to maintain connectivity (exchange of water) between the river and the Southern Ocean.

Dredgers are currently operating in the Tauwitchere and Goolwa Channels. The Murray Mouth was closed to navigation during the work, but from today, this area will be re-opened.

The Environment Department’s Jarrod Eaton said the dredging operations had been successful, despite some setbacks.

Mariners are reminded that navigation through the Murray Mouth is only permitted during daylight hours and that Exclusion Zones established around the dredging operations are still in place to ensure public safety.
