Russia: Yantar Shipyard Launches “Seliger” Resarch Vessel

Launching of the research and testing vessel “Seliger” took place in Kaliningrad at “Yantar” Shipyard this week.

Launching of this heading order of the Ministry of Defense of Russia was timed to the Day of Russian Navy. The vessel “Seliger” is intended for equipment test operation, deep-sea research and rescue works. Length of the vessel is 59,7m, width – 10,8m, displacement – ca 1117t, speed – 13 knots, cruising range – 1000 miles, crew – 16 persons and 9 members of expedition.

“Seliger” is a heading vessel of Project 11982 elaborated by the Central Marine Design Bureau “Almaz”. Shipyard “Yantar” has signed the Shipbuilding Contract with the Ministry of Defense of RF in February 2009. Laying the keel took place on July 08.2009. Till the end of the present year the vessel is to be delivered to the Customer.
