‘Safe Bristolia’ returning to work soon

Prosafe, the world’s largest provider of accommodation rigs, has said that its Safe Bristolia flotel will return to work soon.

As previously announced, Safe Bristolia’s lifeboats were damaged during bad weather at the Everest field, in the UK North Sea, in early October. Operations were suspended and the vessel was brought to the Hanøytangen shipyard in Norway for repair work. At the time of the incident, Safe Bristolia was operating for BG Group.

Prosafe has said that the vessel will be ready for operations again well in advance of the start-up for the second part of the BG contract in April 2015.

To cover extra-ordinary expenses related to the Safe Bristolia incident, a provision of around $7 million will be made in the fourth quarter accounts, Prosafe has said.

Safe Bristolia was converted to a service/accommodation vessel at Yantai Raffles Shipyard in China in 2006. In 2007/2008 it underwent further refit and modification work to qualify it for work in the UK North Sea. The flotel offers accommodation for 316 (UKCS) to 587 persons.
