Saga Cruises Confirms Cruise Ship Order at Meyer

British cruise line company Saga Cruises has signed a contract to build a 55,900gt cruise ship at German shipyard Meyer Werft, which includes an option for an additional cruise vessel.

The cruise ship, the first newbuilding for Saga Cruises, is expected to be delivered in the summer of 2019, while the second one should join the cruise company in 2021.

The contract signing is a confirmation of the memorandum of agreement which Saga Cruises and Meyer Werft inked in September 2015.

Saga Cruises’ new vessel will be approximately 234 metres long, 30.8 metres wide and it will be able to carry less than 1,000 passengers, according to the company.

Saga specialises in services for people over the age of 50. In addition to cruises and holidays Saga also provides insurance, health services and financial services. The company currently has two ships in its fleet, namely, Saga Sapphire and Saga Pearl II.
