Samsung Heavy Clinches Order for LNG Carrier Duo

South Korean shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) has received an order for two liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers from Monaco-based owner and operator of liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers GasLog, according to data provided by VesselsValue.

The shipbuilder said that the two vessels were ordered under a contract worth around KRW 420 billion (USD 381.4 million).

Scheduled for delivery in 2018, the newbuildings will feature a capacity of 180,000 m3 each.

The order comes on the back of Samsung Heavy Industries’ reduced loss seen in the second quarter of 2016, as the shipbuilder reported a net loss of KRW 212.3 billion (USD 192.6 million), compared to a net loss of KRW 1.15 trillion in the same quarter of 2015.

The company’s net loss for the first half of the year accumulated to KRW 196.4 billion, compared to KRW 1.14 trillion seen a year earlier.
