SCCT Records Its Second Best Results

During 2013, the Suez Canal Container Terminal (SCCT) reported an increase in the throughput which reached 3.12 million TEUs compared to 2.86 million TEUs in 2012.

“The results of 2013 are the second best results in terms of growth rate by the terminal coming in second to those of 2011 during which the throughput reached 3.2 million TEUs,” said Mr. Klaus Holm Laursen, Managing Director of SCCT. “Moreover, 2013 witnessed a 15% increase in the number of vessels received by SCCT due to the new services that called SCCT during 2013. The terminal received and offered services to 2,355 vessels last year compared to 2,045 in 2012. SCCT has also prioritized the development of people, equipment and management systems available at the terminal which increased the crane gross productivity to reach 30 moves/hour.”

It is also worth noting, that during 2013, SCCT handled a number of 15,500 TEU vessels as it is the only terminal in Egypt that has the ability to receive and handle such type of container vessels.

“SCCT reaffirms its commitment to further develop the terminal and its equipment as part of the efforts to ensure that it is ready and able to meet the needs of our customers and the Egyptian traders, who place their confidence in our abilities to offer a world-class service,” added Mr. Klaus.

Moreover, as part of its commitment to Egypt as a whole, SCCT prides itself on being one of the largest job creators in the Port Said area. At the moment, SCCT has 1,460 employees with some new 100 employment opportunities created during 2013.

Also SCCT contributes employment in the area indirectly with over 1,000 jobs created through SCCT outsourcing, with some 280 opportunities created in 2013. Further, SCCT is training 165 young Egyptians through its training program in cooperation with the Arab Academy of Science, Technology and Marine Transport.
