Senate passes bill to expedite LNG exports approval

Energy Policy Modernization Act introduced by the U.S. Senator for Alaska Lisa Murkowski, and co-sponsored by Senator Maria Cantwell from Washington state, was passed by the Senate on Wednesday by an 85-12 vote.

The bill provides measures to modernize the power grid and measures that would speed up the permitting process for liquefied natural gas export projects in the United States.

It requires the U.S. Department of Energy to issue a decision on an LNG project within 45 days of an environmental assessment.

Speaking of the bill, Senator Murkowski who is also the chair of the U.S. Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources, noted it includes provisions that will boost hydropower generation and streamline the permitting process for critical mineral development.
